Thanks for the free composing course, I’m finding it interesting and fun. I’m on the video 4 about sentences and I can’t see the difference between Statement Response repetition and modal sequence repetition, they just seem like the same idea to me? Could you please explain?
Model-sequence repetition means that you write an idea that serves as a model that is copied extactly, except for you sequence the harmony.
For instance, if you write a basic idea (2 measures) with C going to G, that would be the model. Sequencing that, you might write the next two measures as D going to A, then E going to B. You are sequencing the 2-chord pattern. This works with any sequence, not just rising stepwise motion.
Statement response, usually feels like a question and answer. For instance, if your statement is C – G, then your response might be G – C.
