Hey Jon,
I am missing a few things in this one. Just wanted to know if we have to understand every bit about apt spacing between chord tones you talked about in the video. Is overtone sequence shown is a fixed sequence for all the keys/notes. Do we have to consider that to find out spacing options. Or are you just opening our minds to options of going octaves higher for next chord tones to any note. You also talked about various melodic motion. Is it going to be covered later? I guess I am overthinking as these would be much clearer as I progress to other lessons. However, would be great if you could address these noises in my brain before I move on to next lessons.
Thank you,
Neeraj

Neeraj,

I think you are over thinking it right now. The goal of the early exercises is forward progress, and not covering every detail. I do cover more on voice leading, and types of melodic motion later in the course.

As far as the overtone series, each fundamental has it’s own overtone series, so C has one, as does C#, D, D#, etc.

The spacing with the overtone series is just a rough guide. For instance, a nice way to space a C major chord, starting from C2 (in the middle of the bass clef) would be C2 – G2 – C3 – E3. This follows the overtone series. But you could easily do C2 – G2 – E3 – C4
