I’m currently doing Exercise 2-3-1 on Dominant 7th chords and inversions, and I’ve noticed that when checking my work I see that you often stack the notes differently to how I do it (meaning, when you have a small interval and you have to put one note to the right or left of the stack).
Are there any rules for when you go right or left? It seems to very depending on the chord/interval or something?
Doesn’t make a difference to the harmony of course, just want to “do it right” 🙂

For the most part, I am just letting Sibelius stack them. I am sure there is a logic to it, but I don’t worry about it too much.

As a general rule, a great reference for these kinds of things is the book by Elaine Gould called Behind Bars.

Yeah I let Notion stack them as well, my question was for when writing pen on paper.
Thanks for the tip on the book though, will add it to my Wishlist. 🙂
